Harbord Bakery

Too bad Harbord Bakery could not care less about Bicycles.
It was them who vetoed the Bike Lane on the rest of Harbord.
Notice: no bike racks either.

Comments:
From what I gather from the photo there are no tables outside either where one could sit and people watch while eating pastries etc..

True. And I should say that I have nothing against a
neighbourhood bakery. They just perfer cars over bikes. It's an odd one.

Hopefullly no cyclist would set foot in there either.

I bike down Harbord everyday right past that bakery and knew nothing of this. I'll be sure and remember that.

Harbord Bakery dose have bike rakes two of theme and has no room for tabels it try it like 11 years ago but it dint help and no body cared and just to let tou know my grate grandfather started the bakery before i was even born and is one of the best bakerys so try it before saying something rude about it ok

I was hardly rude. I stand corrected on the 'ample' bike parking The baked goods are very nice, true. So is the fact that it's a home bakery. Trouble is that Harbord Bakery and other busnisses was very much responsible for making sure that there is no continous bike lane on Harbord. When they allow a bike lane instead of cars I will gladly sing its
praises. Until then, I call it like it is. Sorry.

I found your blog by accident and must congratulate you as I am an avid cyclist in the Annex area. You are doing a great job and I agree there should be more bicycle lanes around this beautiful city. I'm also a client of Harbord Bakery (I can't help it, it's too good!) and do not understand the excitement about the bike parking. First of all, there are some municipal bike "loops" in front of Harbord Bakery. I always park mine there and I shop without feeling that they are not bike friendly. In fact, they never commented when, in a hurry, I would park right in front of their window. There used to be one of those bike racks there but I'm happy they removed it as I did not find it practical at all. As for a bike lane on Harbord, I really don't see how it would be possible unless they remove the cars. There is only one lane for the cars to drive by each way! Wait, I have a suggestion...Let's make Harbord street a pedestrian one! It would be even better! Keep up the good work and don't prevent yourself from such goodies Harbord Bakery has to offer.

Thank you for your comments. I have no problem with the baked goods. I think neighbourhood bakeries are great. Trouble is that businesses that are overtly anti-cyclist are, well, very misguided.
I agree Harbord should be a pedestrian zone with
a couple of bike lanes just to make those baked goods taste even sweeter after a long ride. I think you should recommend this to the owners of the Bakery.
Agreed?
Or is that they simply just prefer cars?
Removing cars is a good idea too. Better air, less noise and more customers on bikes ... hard to argue with that.

Harbord Bakery rules. Screw pretentious "cyclists" with their lame sense of self-importance and entitlement. Walk, take public transit, or move to Portland, Oregon. They love anarcho bike crusters there.
