Calgary

Not a Bicycle City, I guess.

I'd be happy if any of the three major grocery stores within 5km of my place had that kind of parking. :(

At the BlahBlahs at Burnhamthorpe and East Mall I literally park in the flower/tree garden (fortunately they don't keep their flowers in good conditions so I don't end up trampling anything).

At the No Frills on Dundas west of Kipling a few minutes ago I parked against a fire hydrant fence in the parking lot. I didn't block any of the outlet sides, but I bet it was illegal.

The Food Basics on Dundas at East Mall had a railing beside the loading dock that I used to lock to, but now that's gone....

At least the Rabba on Dundas just west of Islington has post and ring racks out front.

Time to write to these stores to ask them for better parking, or find some other alternatives.

As for Calgary...I've never heard anything good about it as far as cycling is concerned! The guy in the pic should take the lane. :)

Cheers,
Vic

You've got to wonder what some of the designers of bicycle racks were thinking.

Really I think the city of Toronto has the best design - I love the post and rings.

Yeah, Calgary isn't exactly a bicycle friendly place. We're on the low-end of the totem pole here. Driver's don't want us on the road and pedestrians don't want us on the pathways. I'm currently trying to design a pedal powered helicopter, since the sky is the only place left for us evil cyclists. In the meantime, my middle finger is getting good use.
