Hello All,
Here's a pic of the new blue bike lane installed on Strachan Ave. today. (sbnd at Lake Shore Blvd)
The blue is inended to highlight a conflict point where drivers merge across the bike lane to make a right turn. The City is currently testing the blue material for durability.
cheers for now.

Are cyclists (the real experts) testing the 'Blue' for it's slickness, especially when wet?
That is totally awesome!!! Like it!
Is this for real or some super snazzy photoshop???!!! I *NEED* to KNOW!!!
I have a TCAT meeting until late tonight so I might not get to check it myself!!!
tell me true - is it really blue?
looks neat. did they also put up a traffic signal so cyclists can cross to the mgt? or was the missing signal trying to cross to go northbound? I can never remember.
...and with every car sold in Toronto comes a four page sheet helping drivers decipher the many bike signs found in the City.
Given the driving I see, Darren, sign, lane or sheet, I don't think most Toronto drivers can decipher ANYTHING!
I hear you. A relative's in-law got her B.C. license renewed after she was declared legally blind. No small feat taking it away from her. Better that than the 100 000 drivers in Ontario that suffer from dementia.
This is a most pleasant surprise.
It's a qualitative upgrade, and it's sorely needed at the DVP exit on the Danforth, as one example.
We can't say the city blue it here as a criticism - for a change eh?
Re the need for a traffic signal connecting strachan to the mgt (nrthbnd) please contact Pantalone's EA - Jason Laszlo jlaszlo@toronto.ca - I've been bugging him about it...
But, apparently something strange is going on down at Strachan and, call me a cynic, skeptic, whatever, but I sort of can't believe this blue lane actually exists until I see it...
Now, if they'd only do something like this on Bloor...
Yes, I'd like to see a Bluer St. too! but I'd settle for red or green bike lanes as in Europe too. Even rose-hued concrete would be good.
That thin blue line must be the most beautiful strip of asphalt in the city.
It looks great.
It doesn't leave any doubt for the cyclist or driver, a bold strip like this is needed wherever the traffic is complicated and there is uncertainty about the proper route to take. I hope the DVP onramp on the Danforth gets the same treatment.
I wanted to go see something good, and had some letter deliveries in the area about ways to avoid spending and/or wasting maybe $750M or more but a serious disappointment in that it's really badly worn off already.
That's a shame - was it not enough surface prep?
So blue-hoo - we need that colour!
yup - i biked over this today, and as hamish noted lots of areas are badly peeled already. shame. hope they fix it with something a bit more permanent.
Staff are working on it again - Dan Egan said it was a bonding agent prob, so they'll try again.
Sigh, stuff happens.
Bluedy hell eh?
Looked like they were power washing it off this morning.
It would be such a big step to get blue onto pavements, let's hope we have good weather next week.
I WANT BLUE BIKE LANES IN WASHINGTON DC!
