Memorial Ride in Solidarity with Fallen Cyclists

Memorial Ride
Spadina and Bloor 7am November 26th

"An early morning collision with a TTC streetcar claimed the life of a 60-year-old male cyclist near lower Spadina Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard West Friday.
The accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m.

Police report the cyclist was stopped at a centre median when the southbound 510 Union Station streetcar that had the right of way approached.

At that point, the cyclist for unknown reasons began to cycle eastbound and was struck by the streetcar. As a result, he was trapped beneath the apron of the streetcar.

The cyclist, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police do not believe he was wearing a helmet.

Streetcars in the immediate area were diverted for several hours as police investigated the collision.

This accident is Toronto's 36th traffic fatality and the second cyclist death of 2010."
