Excellent question. From what I know it's a combination of bike was stolen in the first place, a student who bought a cheap bike for one year moved back home, key was lost and the classic which I have heard before; the person simply no longer wanted the bike beause it was broken or in bad shape. But you're right there are tons of them in New york and in Toronto. It's a shame since a lot of these bikes real nice vintage bikes.
