Newsflash - Cyclist Killed Downtown Monday

A Cyclist was killed yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Queen West
and Gladstone. Identity is not known as of yet. ARC will be holding a memorial
for the cyclist early next week, most likely Monday or Tuesday. Seems we have
learned nothing from what happened to Galen last year.
We need sideguards on trucks, and that's just for starters. Photo source.
More blogs are writing about this tragedy. (1, 2)

This makes me so angry and sadder each time I hear about one of us being run over..

Scary but yet we still ride.

City council should be charged with his death.

Yup. Why not? After Ron Freeman almost was killed on College Street by atruck a friend and I went to speak with Joe Pantalone (Ryan died in his ward, btw) and he just shrugged his shoulders. 'That's how it is'. Nothing you can do. The driver got off with a $100 dollar fine. ARC organized protests, a letter writing campaign for sidegaurds on trucks. Nothing.
After Galen died last year under a truck, Olivia Chow asked for sideguards on trucks at City Council. Nothing. The driver walked, no charges laid. Now Ryan.
Looks like only a private members bill might solve this
issue. Of the 28 cyclist that have died since 1996 on Toronto more than half were killed by trucks.
Is the city responsible? Yes, since they chose not to act
when people die.
