Funny that the single most common complaint motorists have about cyclists is that cyclists "always" run stop signs and red lights. Here a cyclist stops for a yellow and gets punched out for it. I hope this driver gets prosecuted for this.

This scares me more than anything because of how often I do that. If I'm first at an intersection, I take the lane because I don't want to be squeezed against the curb or have someone make a right turn around me. Likewise, I get right behind a car when I'm second arriving at an intersection rather than trying to string my way along the curb. The response is always mixed, with some drivers being patient and realizing they'd have to wait if it were another car in front of them regardless of their own need to turn right or be first at the green light, and others yelling obscenities and and honking continuously at me. Someone once abandoned their right turn and followed me along the road just to yell obscenities at me.

It is hard not to want to do something stupid in those moments.

I've been "nudged" by a car touching my back wheel with its bumper while waiting for a green in the lane. I don't know what made me keep me cool .It may have been the nervous giggle of the young driver.

He should certainly lose his license.

Good points all. Thank you very much for posting them.

What frightens me is people coming in defense of the driver, like the cop who at first did not believe the cyclist, and bloggers/public, etc.

See the just added links.

Sadly, the driver will surely keep his license.

Thanks for posting this. I too am frightened by the off-duty cop's road rage and what specifically happened to the cyclist for abiding by the rules of the road. However, watch the video again and it is incredulous to see all the pedestrians and car drivers who continue walking/driving past the assault without stopping to try to break up the altercation...
