"Bike Lane Plan Catches Wind"
It's not heaven on wheels, but it's a start: Toronto and East York Community Council voted Tuesday, April 4, to approve bike lanes on both sides of Harbord between Ossington and Grace, and on the east side of a short stretch of Logan between Eastern and Lakeshore.
"Cyclists are rightly frustrated that plans to develop the Bike Network seem to be progressing slowly," says Trinity-Spadina Councillor Joe Pantalone.
"This doesn't quite do the job, but at least it moves us in the right direction."
Pantalone also mentions future plans for a lane on Strachan from Lakeshore to Liberty Village. The bike lane plan, which still has to be approved by council, will cost $30,000 and eat up 31 parking spaces on Harbord, including 18 overnight spaces. And here's where the friction lies - polls of area residents still need to be completed before final approval can be given. In the east end, three overnight parking spaces will have to be sacrificed for what will be the city's shortest bike lane. But if all goes well at council later this month, cyclists could be pedalling on the new lanes as early as this summer.

I hope that any bike lane that gets installed is better than the one in that photo. Right in the door-zone! Ouch.
Do you think they might repair Harbord and get rid of all those long lines of crack filling tar that are all over the place , you know the ones that get all soft in the warmer months and trap your wheels.
The lane on Logan will be contra-flow, finally making it legal to ride from the Lakeshore path to hook up with the Logan bike lane north of Queen. Logan will become an increasingly important northbound route while the Lower Don trail is closed for improvements.
Owen,
Excellent point. I get it now. Sounds long overdue.
Oh, Harbord should have had a continous Bike Lane
for years now ... Let's see if we can get the merchants
on the rest of Harbord to wake up and smell the
chain lube ...
Steeker,
In a word: no.
Sucks then cause I am running 700x23C tires on my SingleSpeed and those soft tar lines can drop your arse on the road sooooooo fast when your wheel drops in. :|
Yeah, I know, me too. You could write a letter to the Cycling Committee, they get so few of them.
Ah Owen has asked the question I was going to ask - is the Logan bike lane going to be contraflow? (because Logan runs one way Eastern to Lakeshore)
