Hey Martino, I have mixed feelings about the queen's quay thing - good idea, but I have to admit I thought the arc de triomphe thing was a bit on the ugly side.

Just out of curiousity, you're not the guy who used to have the "get out of the bike lane" website are you?

No that was me.

Darren,

That site is still
http://www.getoutofthebikelane.com
right?

No, I have not maintained it in awhile. While it got great media attention it did not reduce the number of people parking in the bike lane. There are just too many of them.

Does anyone know where all those bikes came from or what will happen with them after?

I like that they put up some artwork to make a big statement. I'm sure it helps in the news coverage.

Darren J - about the bikes: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&call_pageid=971358637177&c=Article&cid=1155420635455

"Scrap heap" does not sound like a good use for them.

maybe everyone's already thought of this, but my thought (and I put this on the CBC Radio bikeweek forum) was that cyclists should be able to photograph cars parked in bike lanes, send the photos to the police, and have the police issue a ticket to the motorist based on the evidence of the photo.

P.S. - I LOVE it when cars are parked in the bike lane right in front of 55 Division at Coxwell and Dundas.

Speaking of bike lane parking...
I was down there last weekend and threw my chain resulting in a loss of balance and spectacular crash. (at the corner of QQ and Bathurst)

While a good samaritan and my girlfriend were holding my wounds together awaiting the ambulance my girlfriend commented to the cop on-scene that the corner was particularly hairy as people are always parked in the bike lane there (there was in fact someone parked there as she spoke)

The cop replied "yeah, they're probably running into the corner store" and that was that.
