A *well-designed* bike lane works in that situation. A poorly-designed bike lane, like many of the ones we have in Toronto, would encourage the cyclist to ride in that door-zone, and encourage the motorist to stay close too (as long as they're on the other side of the line).

Love this! Sometimes photos are better than a video. In this case I say yes!
