Time to stop giving bicyclists a free ride? (National Post)

Actually, the National Post today got it backwards.

High time to stop giving motorists a free ride.

If the columnist had done their research as Todd Litman did for the Victoria Transportation Policy Institute ...

... he would have discovered that cyclists pay more than their fair share to use public roads, which are paid through general taxes regardless of their travel habits.

Me thinks the article is tongue in cheek?

I can't tell, Darren. Apparently Poe's Law also applies to pro-car fundamentalists as well!

I really thought he was being serious - no indication, shift in tone or other, to show that he was kidding. What a waste of ink.

Yeah, could be tongue in cheek but really he's just being dumb ...

I could not find the writer's name or even what section other than "Home" that it was run under.

The whole thing felt like a suck in. How many readers could the writer suck in with the piece and make them comfortable enough to spew more. I guess somewhat similar to what they call that a sock puppet.

On the other hand if the writer was being serious it offers some good insight to how some people see things or have been misinformed. Why do some still believe that there gas taxes go the roads? Even the CAA will tell you that only 3% of the tax actually goes to the roads.
